Extracurricular Activities

West Side Montessori is pleased to offer several options for extracurriculars. These classes are offered after school and are taught by West Side Montessori staff and outside instructors. Instructors set their own fee, class size, age range, and program content.  WSM adds a nominal fee to each class.

Sessions range from four to six weeks long.

Session 2

The second session of extracurricular classes will run for five weeks, beginning November 4.

Registration for Session 2 opens Tuesday, October 15, at noon, and continues through noon on Friday, October 25.

Late registration ($10 late fee) begins Tuesday, October 22. The registration window closes Friday, October 25 at noon. No registrations will be accepted after October 25. 

Online registration and payment for students can be found on your parent portal account. The forms will be available through your family's account, allowing you to sign up electronically and then pay using your Discover, Mastercard, or Visa credit card or by e-check. The online registration allows for only one registration per student. You will not be able to add or change classes online once you register.

Our goal is to create tennis-related skills such as movement combined with hand-eye coordination.  We practice with a focus on developing character such as showing respect, giving our best effort, and practicing being a good sport.

Coach Phill Urrutia is a USPTA certified tennis professional who is the Director of Youth Progression at Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness.  He is also an assistant tennis coach at St. John's Jesuit and is returning for his 3rd year offering Red Ball tennis at West Side.

Jane Stiles is a trained Montessori teacher for 3-6 year-olds.  She has worked at West Side for over 30 years. In that time she has enjoyed guiding children through many diverse and creative art projects.

Using block-based programming, they will learn how to make their robot move, make noise, change colors, and interact with its environment.  

Tom Burnworth is the Director of Operations at the Sylvania STEM Center (SSC). He is the co-founder of SSC and over the past 9 years has coached and taught various STEM-related classes and teams. Paige Sloma has been a volunteer at the Sylvania STEM Center for four years, a coach for an all-girls FLL team, and has co-taught summer camps and STEM extracurriculars at West Side.

Tuesdays - 3:30-4:30* p.m. Students will have the chance to get their hands dirty while learning about the vast realm of Permaculture garden design. More Less

This Session will continue to focus on preparing new garden beds for the winter.  We will also do some work in the greenhouse. Tools and materials will be provided. Students are highly advised to bring gloves that fit, clothes that protect from the elements (some project will be indoors in the case of heavy storms), and closed-toe shoes.
