Extracurricular Activities

 

West Side Montessori is pleased to offer several options for extracurriculars. These classes are offered after school and are taught by West Side Montessori teachers and outside instructors. In general, each session will range from five to six weeks long.

Session 4

The fourth session of extracurricular classes will start the week of April 9 and end by May 18.

Open registration for Session 4 opens Tuesday, March 13, at noon, and continues through the end of the school day on Monday, March 19.

Late registration ($10 late fee) begins Tuesday, March 20. The registration window closes Friday, March 23 at noon. No registrations will be accepted after March 23. 

Online registration and payment information can be found under your parent portal account on the WSM website. The forms will be available through your family's account, allowing you to sign up electronically and then pay using your Discover, Mastercard, or Visa credit card or by e-check. The online registration allows for only one registration per student. You will not be able to add or change classes online once you register.

Soccer Shots for 2-3yr olds will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:15 p.m. for 6 weeks in the Great Room and Playground.

They will learn many techniques used to decorate cakes. Samantha works as a Little House assistant and has been decorating cakes for the last 10 years. She has been trained in the Wilton cake decorating method.

Coach Phill is a USPTA certified teaching professional. He has been teaching tennis in the Toledo area for the last 10 years at Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness.  He is also an Assistant Coach to the SJJ Titans Tennis Team.  He is currently the Director of 10 and under tennis at Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness.

First LEGO League Jr. The Library $108.00
Mondays - 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Explore a real-world scientific concept through research, teamwork, construction, and imagination. More Less

Student teams, guided by their adult coaches, will use LEGO bricks to build a moving model.  They will also create a “Show Me” poster to illustrate their journey.  A competition will be held at Northview High School 9:00 am-12:00 pm on Saturday, May 12 to showcase their work.

Grant Wilson is the project director of the NURTURES grant at the University of Toledo and works on STEM-based professional development for PK-3 teachers. Tom Burnworth is the co-founder and Director of Operations at the Sylvania STEM Center (SSC). He has coached and taught various STEM-related teams, innovative summer camps, and workshops at the center for 7 years. Together, Tom and Grant have developed summer camps focusing on engineering experience in early childhood and computer programming with SCRATCH.

Braintwisters Goldfinch Room $108.00
Thursdays - 3:30 to 4:15 pm. Braintwisters is for lower elementary students who want to sharpen math skills, increase learning, have fun, and get excited about math. More Less

This club is a great way to enrich lower elementary math skills.  Some of the activities may include: playing math/logic games, exploring famous mathematicians, working with various geometry materials, solving magic squares, and much more.  Each week there will be plenty of hands-on activities to challenge their mathematical skills while having fun! This class will be offered by Natalie Fisher and Jenn Schoepf.

Braintwisters will be held from 3:30-4:15 pm on Thursdays for 6 weeks in the Goldfinch Room.

Grant Wilson is the project director of the NURTURES grant at the University of Toledo and works on STEM-based professional development for PK-3 teachers. Tom Burnworth is the co-founder and Director of Operations at the Sylvania STEM Center (SSC).  He has coached and taught various STEM-related teams, innovative summer camps, and workshops at the center for 7 years. Together, Tom and Grant have developed summer camps focusing on engineering experience in early childhood and computer programming with SCRATCH.

SUMO BOT will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for 6 weeks in the Library.

Sarah Duvall completed her 200-hour teacher training in 2014 through It's Yoga Toledo and went on to earn her 50-hour Rocket certification in 2015. She has taught yoga at West Side Montessori for three years.
