Character Traits

Gratitude Jar

We have started introducing character traits to the children during morning circle, and we revisit them throughout the week.  We have discussed the trait of being RESPONSIBLE and talked about how we can be responsible in our classroom.  The students brainstormed a list of jobs that we could have in the Sassafras room and we will change out who does each job each week.  The children have loved getting to help out around the room!

We also introduced GRATITUDE as we moved into the week of Thanksgiving.  The children participated in several activities to think about what they are grateful for and we even started a gratitude jar where they can write people’s names or things that they are grateful for on a slip of paper and then put them in the jar.  The jar is so full already!  We also worked together as a class to make an art piece that highlights what we are grateful for.

From gratitude we moved on to GENEROSITY.  This theme tied in so well with our Thanks and Giving Party!  THANK YOU to all the families that helped make this event possible-we had more than enough donations for the Ronald McDonald house, the gift bags were beautiful, and the students really enjoyed getting to put together the blanket that was donated.  We found it to be a great experience for the children and they truly loved getting to help out other families.  Thank you to Risa for such a wonderful sing along, as well!

We will continue to introduce more character traits throughout the year, and it is really neat to see how the children have incorporated these big vocabulary words into their everyday language.  It’s great to see how excited they are when they get to demonstrate generosity or show that they are responsible.
