Montessori Education Week with Little House Children

Posted on by Goldfinch

Students in the Goldfinch room are celebrating Montessori Education Week this week.  Reading books about Maria Montessori, drawing a favorite material, completing a timeline, or working on a word search are some of the opportunities offered to the Intelligent Eagles this week .  The Intelligent Eagles visited the Little House classrooms on Wednesday, March 2nd. Students read, danced, cooked, assisted, and worked with the Montessori materials with the younger students.

Maria Montessori stated, “Education is a natural process carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment.” This cross-level activity allowed our students to practice leadership, cooperative learning, kindness and respect as they interacted in a new environment with the younger students.  Observing the Intelligent Eagles this morning we overheard,  “I wish I was three again,”  “I can’t believe I was this young once,” and “I’m never having kids!” The joy of Montessori is observing the interactions and relationships that develop among the students of all ages.
