North America

In geography, we want to give the children a picture of the “whole” before moving to the “parts.”  We began with the universe then focused on the planet earth.  Next, we turned our attention to the large pieces of land that cover our earth, the continents.  Each continent is represented by a specific color on our globe and world map.  Now we are learning about one continent in particular, the orange continent of North America. Using the puzzle map of North America, we discovered it is made up of even smaller pieces of land called countries.  Over the next few weeks we will learn more about some of these countries.

Here a student is using the control map along with the puzzle map. This helps the child learn the names of the various countries and where they are located.
