Maria Montessori said, “Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.” She believed that by giving kids space to explore and discover for themselves, they would have a greater understanding and appreciation for the world around them. To help promote those discoveries and independence around your home, come to the Great Room at the Perrysburg Campus for this presentation by your child’s teachers!

First Thursday will be presented by Jean Miller and Tricia Miller-Purvis.

Spring Sing: Building a Better World

6:30 p.m. – University of Toledo Recital Hall
Perrysburg and Toledo Kindergarten Spring Concert

Spring is in the air, at least inside the classroom!  We are identifying types of flowers, working with a miniature greenhouse, and matching gardening tools by name and photograph.  Inside our sensory table is shredded paper grass with which we are using tongs to pick up miniature flowers.  We are building flowers with pattern cards and we are using tri-point needle tongs to pick up flower shaped buttons.  We are using pastel paints at our easel, which seems to brighten the room when we spot them hanging on our drying rack.  The bulbs on our playground have popped up and on warmer days the children are very excited to examine the flower petals when they are open.  We have our fingers crossed for more warm days on the playground!

A reminder to parents to send in jackets, sweaters, and other layering items as the temperature changes so much throughout the day.  Also, a reminder to put initials inside the clothing so everything goes home with the right child.

Magnets are on our Science self.  Children are discovering which objects are attracted to the magnet and what objects do not.
imagePaper clips, hair barrettes, iron nails get attracted to the magnet and are magnetic by nature.  Corn, plastic, felt are not attracted to the magnet and are non-magnetic.image

In our art area the children are painting with two colors of paint.  Mixing red and blue makes the color purple.

Cutting strips of paper with scissors and placing the cut paper in an envelope has been a favorite in the art area.
imageStacking the cylinders from largest to smallest on top of each other without falling is always a challenge.

These monthly parent education programs are presented by WSM teachers and open to the public.
