Thanks and Giving Celebration!
Emerald Room Thanks and Giving Celebration!
Wednesday, November 18 9-11:30 a.m.
Our celebration in the Emerald Room will involve giving thanks in shared moments and memories with one another and in giving to our local community. This is where we’ll need your help!
In addition to collecting brand new books for the Graham’s Foundation, we will be engaging in activities to serve our community. One such activity will be making scarves to be distributed around the city. You and your child can tie the scarf he/she made around a tree or pole for someone who comes along to use to keep themselves warm. We will also be decorating and filling brown paper lunch bags with chips and cookies for those who do not have homes and food to eat in partnership with Food For Thought Food Pantry here in Toledo, Ohio. The last project we will start a couple of days before the celebration.
We will be cooking Stone Soup. To make this project more meaningful every child will have an opportunity to contribute one ingredient. In order to do this, each child will draw one ingredient “out of a hat” and bring it in by Monday, November 16th. You will receive the name of the ingredient that your child draws on Tuesday, November 10th. After receiving the ingredients we will start the cooking. Our plan is to share the soup with you on the day of the celebration AND share it with individuals who are homeless and without food.
Every Saturday morning a variety of organizations (including Fellowship Matters) provide meals in a vacant parking lot (Michigan Ave. and Adams St.) near the main public library in downtown Toledo. On Saturday, November 21st at 10 a.m. we will be partnering with them by passing out the lunch bags and soup from the celebration.
Please come to our Thanks and Giving Celebration on Wednesday, November 18th and mark your calendars for 10 a.m. Saturday, November 21st. We hope to see you there!
