Mosaic Unveiled to Celebrate WSM’s 40 Years
Posted by West Side Montessori
In conjunction with its 40th anniversary celebration, West Side Montessori (WSM) recently unveiled a student-made mosaic wall at its Toledo Campus. Students from kindergarten to eighth grade created the nature-themed clay tiles under the guidance of WSM’s art teacher, Deb Simoff, during the 2014-15 school year. The tiles were then glazed and fired in the school’s kiln in preparation for the wall. Middle School students and WSM’s alumna and current parent Danielle Fisher-Snyder worked with Deb to install the finished pieces on the cement wall that serves as the entry point to the West Side’s toddler program known as Little House.
Pictured above is a representation of the WSM students from grades 1-8 who helped on the project. In the center back (starting the fifth child from the left) are the three Middle School students – Rebecca Martin, Henry (Hank) Thomas, and Emma Morgenstern – who carefully selected and grouted the tiles.
