Accepting Others and Helping
Posted by Cardinal
Our theme throughout this year has been Accepting Others and Helping.
“Let us give the child a vision of the whole universe… for all things are part of the universe, and are connected with each other to form one whole unity.”
~ Maria Montessori
It is through the daily exposures to different people, languages, cultural customs, food and beliefs that our children develop compassion and an understanding of the differences and commonalities of all people.
Throughout this year we will be discovering ways to accept and learn from individuals such as Angie, from the Ability Center (above).
Our next “Accepting Other lesson is sign language for the Deaf. Theresa and Cory from Shared Lives have been frequent guests to our classroom. During their visits, we have learned about American Sign Language, Braille, and serving the community. Earlier in March, Cory taught the students his first lesson. He taught them how to improve their environment by making seed bombs. Seed bombs are a mixture of planting soil and flowering seeds that can be thrown while riding a bike or driving so beauty can be found in unusual places. See pictures below:
Parents: Your Opinion Matters
Posted by West Side Montessori
West Side Montessori is in the process of being re-accredited by the American Montessori Society. This is a title that WSM is very proud to have as one of only five schools Ohio and of 126 schools nationally who have this special recognition!
An important part of the process to retain the accreditation is to offer an anonymous parent survey which allows families to express their opinions about our school, including our strengths and areas of improvement. Every opinion counts!
Please take a few moments to complete the specific campus – Perrysburg or Toledo – by clicking a link below to participate. Complete the general questions and then skip to the program-specific questions that pertain to each of your children. Your comments are welcome.

If done online, follow the directions to print off the “Thank You” page at the end of the survey, add your name, and return it to school. In doing so, you will earn two free hours of child care for your child! Your survey will still be submitted anonymously. Paper copies also are available at the front desk or you can complete an online survey using a laptop set up in the lobby.
Thank you for your continued support of West Side Montessori.

The Cardinal students spent the month of February exploring the continent of Asia and its culture.
Two classroom parents provided authentic clothing from India for students to try on.
Thank you to Smita and Pratima for helping learn about the Indian culture.

Kids on the Block, a puppeteer group, visited the Lower Elementary classrooms this past week. Each large, hand-crafted puppet represented a child with a disability. Disabilities included the blind, deaf, physically disabled, learning disabled, and Down’s Syndrome. After viewing the presentation of scripted dialog between puppet characters, children were given the opportunity to ask specific questions. Students learned that every person is important and accepting others differences will help create a more peaceful world.
Thanksgiving Party Volunteers Needed
Posted by Cardinal
The Cardinal Room will be celebrating Thanksgiving on Tuesday, Nov. 26. This year the plan is for the children to have pumpkin pie and pumpkin muffins/bread as a “dessert” to their lunch in celebration of Thanksgiving. In addition, the teachers have invited the parents to feel free to join the children in this celebration.
Therefore, you are invited to join your child for lunch in the Cardinal Room on Nov. 26 at 11:45 a.m. Please bring your own lunch and pull up a chair next to your child to enjoy a nice lunch together. Towards the end of lunch, the children and parents will be served pumpkin pie and pumpkin muffins/bread to eat if they would like.
In order to make this happen, I am requesting for volunteers to help in the following ways:
- Donate a pumpkin pie – need 3-4 people to provide 1 pie each
- Donate whipped topping for the pie – need 1 can
- Donate pumpkin bread or muffins – need 3 people to each provide 1 loaf of bread or dozen muffins
- Donate butter for bread/muffins
- Donate thanksgiving themed plates – need 50 plates
- Donated thanksgiving themed napkins – need 50+ napkins
- Donate water bottles – smaller bottles would be best, need approx. 40-50 small bottles
- Need assistance in setting up prior to lunch – need 2 people to help starting around 11:30 a.m. (and to help serve)
Click the Sign Up Sheets at the top of the page to sign up online. Thanks in advance for your assistance!
