BEST OF ROUND WINNERS!

We received exciting news!

Sarah Whitacre was awarded 2 Best of Round  awards for the stories she wrote in rounds 1 and 2.

AND

Henry Thomas was awarded a Best of Round award for the story he wrote for round 2.

Students will compete at Lourdes University in Sylvania on Wednesday, March 2.

Good Luck Writers!

Every year we compete in the Toledo Museum of Art Ekphrastic Writing Contest.

Recently we attended a docent led tour at TMA. We were able to view and discuss many works of art and then choose any artwork in the museum which inspired us. Our assignment was to choose a work of art and then complete a journal on site. We journaled for about 30 minutes – every student picked a unique work of art. Now we are working on creating our own masterpieces by turning our journaling into poetry.

We are including a link to previous winners. Many West Side middle school students and graduates are past winners. If we work hard and our muse speaks loudly enough, perhaps we too will be included in the list of poems published!

POP District Update

Last weekend, we attended Power of the Pen, a creative writing competition, at Tiffin Middle School. There were three rounds of writing, each forty minutes long. We were given a different writing prompt for each round. Writing stories was a lot of fun and so was spending time together.

We are proud of our writing teams! Congratulations!

Sarah Whitacre placed 2nd for 7th grade!

Emma Morgenstern placed 3rd & Rebecca Martin placed 5th in the 8th grade division.

Alex Desser, an 8th grader, received an honorable mention for his humorous third round story, nearly clinching the coveted Best of Round spot.

Our 8th grade team placed 2nd overall!

Kudos to Eric Slotterbeck for designing our mind blown t-shirt!
