Heritage Luncheon

Students and parents of the Karner Blue classroom shared family recipes and dishes during a heritage celebration at the end of November.  The food was quite delicious!  There was excitement to taste foods which are important traditions to the families of the members of our classroom.  Special thanks to the volunteers who helped to set up and clean up, the parents who came to celebrate in the classroom, and everyone who contributed to making the heritage luncheon a huge success.

Karner Blue Spirit Day: Twin Day

Many Upper Elementary students enjoyed a bit of fun by dressing alike for “Twin Day.”  Each month, the Spirit Committee plans a special day to help enhance the fun of learning.

3rd-Level Visits to Upper Elementary

Students from Lower Elementary who will be moving up to Upper Elementary next year visited the classrooms and interacted with current UE students.  Some of the visitors came to the Karner Blue classroom and were given tours, introduced to teachers, and learned an exciting math game.  It was an occasion for the 3rd-level students to get excited about moving up next school year.

5-Kingdom Charts

Students have been having fun testing their knowledge of the 5 Kingdoms of Life by matching phylum names to pictures and phylum descriptions.  4th level students are working with the animal kingdom.  5th level has been learning about the plant kingdom. 6th level is practicing with the fungi, protoctista, and prokaryote kingdoms. It is a self-paced activity that has kept students diligently engaged.

Spirit Day: Wacky Tacky Wednesday

Students were invited to make fashionistas cringe as they wore the most mismatched outfits they could find.  These fun fashion faux-pas helped make the day fabulous!

Skating Party

Oh, what fun it is to hit the ice with Upper Elementary and Middle School students during the skating party at Tam-O-Shanter in Sylvania.  For an hour, students were able to show their skating moves, try to develop moves, or even try to stay upright during this annual activity.

Karner Blue’s 4th Level students have been exploring food chains and webs. The culmination of this lesson includes the dissection of owl pellets and analyzing what owls eat. Using charts to identify bones, students determine which animals can be in an owl’s food web.
