Staff Spotlight: Jana Schultz

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was a firefighter for 12 years with Springfield Twp. I love camping and boating. I am passionate about teaching people how to swim. I teach at Y a few nights a week with my daughter. I have two children ages 16 and 12. They are both very active with swim team. I've been married for 20 years.

What’s your favorite Montessori quote?
“Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future.”

What is the most important life lesson you'd like to share with your students?
Be mindful of others and be healthy inside and out. I always have students listen to each other when they have a problem and find a peaceful solution instead of ignoring it. I also try to incorporate fun and easy games and activities that the students can use to stay active outside of school when they are with their families.

What do you love about Montessori?
That the WSM community will teach children to be kind. They will learn practical life skills. Responsibility for themselves and their community.
