Monday, August 27, 2012The Upper Elementary classroom held its opening ceremony on Friday, Aug. 24 to mark the beginning of the 2012-13 school year. Three students lit individual candles to represent each grade in the classroom - fourth, fifth, and sixth. The students then lit a single candle to show classroom unity. "The Rainbow People," originally written by Carolyn Askar, was read to the class by Kristin McEachern. Students participated in the story by collected differently colored ribbons and moved throughout the narrated story.
The classroom teachers then sang their version of "Call Me Maybe" and rocked the classroom! Click here to view the video on West Side Montessori Facebook page.
The ceremony ended with cake decorated with this year's theme - One Earth, One Family. Below are pictures from the event.
