West Side Montessori Receives Ohio Arts Council Grant to Host Risa Cohen
During the 2022-2023 academic year, the Toledo campus of West Side Montessori (WSM), in collaboration with Risa Cohen, M.S.Ed, Creative Director of Sing into Reading, will benefit from a TeachArtsOhio Grant from the Ohio Arts Council.
WSM is thrilled and honored to be named a recipient of this competitive grant, which will fund Risa Cohen to come to WSM for 100 days of the 2022 - 2023 academic school year.
This program will help students ages 3-6 develop literacy, music, and movement skills. Students will practice shared and independent reading using songs as texts for reading and writing. Zipper songs will serve as a platform for Modeled Writing, Interactive Writing, and Independent Writing, depending on students’ abilities. The program offers students opportunities to learn and practice music, movement, and literacy skills in a supported classroom environment, and showcase their work.
West Side Montessori and Sing into Reading would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to Governor Mike DeWine and members of the Ohio General Assembly for acknowledging the importance of public funding for the arts.
