We have had two children in Middle School at West Side (one is an eighth-grader now). Everything West Side does from Little House through sixth grade is building to make Middle School the crowning glory of students’ experience. Middle School has engaged both our (very-different-from-each-other) children deeply in a broad range of subjects across the curriculum.
My son, Braden, is a graduate of the WSM class of 2021 and a current freshman at Saint Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received first honors this past semester and is an all-A student. He is involved in several clubs, after-school service hours mentoring elementary students, and plays rugby. I am so grateful I decided to transfer him to West Side for 7th and 8th grade because I firmly believe his success at Saint X is owed to his time at WSM. The transition to high school was seamless even with an entire move to a new city.
I am a mother of four and a current WSM parent. My son Kevin is in 6th level and my son George is in Little House. In addition, my two oldest children attended WSM through 8th grade; both of my girls now attend Notre Dame Academy.
I cannot express to you enough the sheer amazement I experienced watching the transformation of my children throughout their years at West Side. But the TRUE accomplishment was seeing them blossom in their final years in Middle School.
As a parent of a recent middle school graduate and current 7th-grade student at West Side, I wanted to provide some perspective on some of the benefits of keeping your child at West Side for their 7th and 8th-grade years.
I’m turning 19 years old here in a few days and serving in the United States Marine Corps in North Carolina. Though I’m gone and graduated, I frequently think about the relationships and adventures I had during my time in middle school. Let’s be honest, WSM middle school is the part everyone looks forward to most in their Montessori career; at least I know I did!
West Side graduates are known for being leaders when they move on to high school and Layan Ridi (‘22) and Daivik Patel (‘21) are no exception. Both attend Maumee Valley Country Day School where Layan is a freshman and Daivik is a sophomore.
Middle School student Hazel Shanahan was selected as the winner of the 8th-grade essay competition for the 2023 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Art, Essay & Multimedia Contest, hosted by the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.
West Side Montessori is an independent, accredited Montessori school educating children 13 months through 8th grade (preschool, kindergarten, elementary school and middle school). We are one of the leading private schools in Toledo, and the nation.
