Staff Spotlight: Jenn Schoepf

Jenn Schoepf is the Head of School at West Side Montessori and has worked at WSM for 28 years!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Jenn Schoepf and this is my 28th year at West Side. I was a Children’s House teacher for 19 years before moving into the role of Director of Elementary and Middle School Education, and now Head of School. My husband Derek and I have been married for 24 years and have two children that are West Side graduates. Both of my children started at West Side when they were 13 months old. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, and walking my dog.

What inspires you the most in the Montessori environment?
Maria Montessori observed that children experience what she called “spontaneous joy.” When children are learning naturally and developing to the fullest of their potential, the result is a state of pure joy.

I am always amazed by the calm, peaceful, respectful learning environments where children are joyful and truly love to learn.

What would you tell a prospective family about WSM?
Child development is not a competition, it’s a gradual unfolding of human potential. In the Montessori learning environment, children are nurtured to reach their potential in an environment fostering mutual respect, social responsibility, and a love of learning. They develop strong academics, excellent work habits, and high-level social and leadership skills. West Side students graduate as compassionate leaders, confident communicators, and self-motivated learners.
