I have been working in Early Childhood Education for over 30 years. I have a Bachelors in Psychology with several Early Childhood Education courses. I started out teaching swim lessons at the YMCA in college and found my passion of working with young children. I have two grown children, Matt and Monica who are both Montessori educated from Kindergarten through fourth grade. I saw how much they both thrived in the Montessori environment. The hands-on learning, the natural self-discipline and the inspiration of creativity instilled the love of learning within them both. When I moved to Ohio from the east coast, I followed my passion and started working for West Side Montessori which enabled me to pursue my AMS Montessori Certification. I am an avid runner and Orangetheory member. I love to challenge myself physically through my daily workouts or training for 1/2 marathons. As my two children have grown and are pursuing their passions, I enjoy spending whatever time I can get with them and my husband.
I am inspired by the independence and self-confidence that the environment allows children to build. I love the ongoing Grace and Courtesy curriculum that enables children to develop a sense of empathy and social justice. Overall, I am always amazed how the Montessori classroom inspires children to develop the love of learning that continues for a lifetime.
My favorite Maria Montessori quote is, "The greatest gifts we can give or children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence. " In the Montessori classroom we set up the environment to enable children to "help me do it myself." They are learning to be independent, competent and confident. Children learn that their voices matter, their opinions matter, and they learn to become valued members of society.
West Side Montessori strives to build community and partnerships with families to ensure that children are in a safe and loving environment which empowers them to become self-motivated learners, compassionate leaders and confident communicators.
West Side Montessori is an independent, accredited Montessori school educating children 13 months through 8th grade (preschool, kindergarten, elementary school, and middle school). We are one of the leading private schools in Toledo and the nation.
