Breaking Ground: New Outdoor Education Building Construction Underway!

We are excited to share that construction of a new Outdoor Education building, called “The Den,” will begin this summer at the Toledo Campus!
This building will serve as the home of the Fisher Outdoor Education Program, which was established in 2020 in honor of West Side founder Lynn Fisher and the Fisher family. Fundraising for this project began during our 2021 annual fundraiser, and we are thrilled to see this vision becoming a reality.

The Den will provide a dedicated space for classes to gather before and after outdoor learning experiences. It will also offer a comfortable indoor environment when weather conditions are too cold or wet for spending extended time outdoors. The 1,800-square-foot building will include a large workspace for student activities, storage for outdoor education materials and equipment, an office, and two restrooms.

The facility will be located on the southwest corner of the school building, near the pond. Site preparation is already underway, and a temporary construction entrance will be added from Bancroft Street soon. We anticipate construction beginning in June and being completed by mid-October.

We are grateful to the many donors whose generosity has made this project possible. We look forward to the opportunities this new space will create for our students and the impact it will have on outdoor learning at West Side for years to come.
