Staff Spotlight: Sarah Kreinbrink

About you — Tell us about yourself, your family, and the hobbies that bring you joy.

My name is Sarah Kreinbrink, and I have been an Infant Toddler Teacher at West Side since 2001. My husband Aaron and I have two children. Our son Carson, graduated from West Side last year and is now a Freshman at SJJ and our Daughter, Paige, is a 6th grader in the Karner Blue classroom. Both of my children started at WSM when they were only a year old. I have always loved children and enjoy providing night support to families with newborns! I spend most of my free time cheering for my children on and off the soccer field and traveling with their teams, our family, and friends.

Path to Montessori — What led you to Montessori education, and what inspired you to choose this approach?

When I found West Side, I didn't know this type of education existed for children. I was fascinated with the approach and wanted to learn more right away. I was immediately drawn to the mutual respect, grace, and courtesy curriculum, and the independence offered to children at such young ages.

Montessori impact — How has Montessori shaped you as a human — in the classroom and beyond?

Maria was a scientist who collected all of her data through observation. She was slow to react and looked at things objectively. I have learned to approach life the same way.

One thing to know — If someone knew nothing about Montessori, what is the one thing you’d want them to understand?

Montessori Education puts the child first. It is more than just academics. Children learn independence, grace and courtesy, self-regulation, care of self, others, and the environment. Children are encouraged to follow their passions and to think outside the box. They are encouraged to collaborate with others. Montessori Students quickly become confident communicators, compassionate leaders, and self-motivated learners. It is an educational philosophy that is second to none!
