The 2020-21 school year marks our 15th annual running/walking (and now biking!) event, which helps fund a scholarship in memory of an admired and cherished West Side teacher, Karen Weeks.
Karen taught at WSM from 1988 until she lost her battle with breast cancer in 2005. She wanted to leave her mark at West Side and requested in her will that a scholarship be established in her name. For the last 14 years, a scholarship has been awarded to a child whom the staff feels symbolizes all the best characteristics of a Montessori student. Our event is named after Karen's nickname, K'Dub.
Money raised through this event will go towards funding the Karen Weeks Memorial Scholarship and general tuition assistance. Thank you for your support!
K'Dub is going virtual this year! Maria Montessori, born 150 years ago in Italy, opened the first Montessori school in Rome in 1906. Sixty-nine years later, West Side was founded in Toledo—hence the race theme, Rome to Home! To celebrate the 45th anniversary of West Side Montessori's founding, we've created walk/run/bike race options that can be completed within a 45-day window:
Can we collectively log the distance from Rome to Home - 4,500 miles?! We think we can!
